RRS training is designed to be flexible for use in both institutional and community settings, for different lengths of time, and by different types of staff. The curriculum may be implemented as a standalone program or as a part of a more comprehensive treatment package, and it also includes modifications for participants who have mental illnesses. To ensure fidelity, a four-day facilitator training is required to help staff effectively deliver the curriculum modules.
Approximately 70 percent of youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system have behavioral health needs. This training discusses strategies for effective collaboration to connect youth returning home from confinement to reentry services in their communities. Our correctional consultants share best practices that have been successful in their facilities in improving behavioral health outcomes for youth reentering their communities.
This program is especially useful for juvenile correctional agencies, behavioral health agencies, clinicians, reentry coordinators, probation and parole staff, and other stakeholders.
Employment is widely seen by reentry service providers, researchers, policymakers, and people who were previously incarcerated as crucial to a person’s successful reintegration into the community and decreasing their risk of recidivism. Yet the stigma of incarceration and having been out of the workforce for a period of time often contribute to the challenges people face when trying to find a job after release from prison or jail. People who have been incarcerated earn 40 percent less annually than they had earned prior to incarceration and are likely to have less upward economic mobility over time than those who have not been incarcerated, according to a 2010 report from The Pew Charitable Trusts.
